oil filter spring

carbs i love em...
i changed the oil on the bike to play it save since the carbs has been leaking, i tried the light the oil on fire bit but i didn't catch, i was still concerned so change i did.

like an idiot i put the spring and washer on top the way i put it the last time, i rode it last tiem for 300miles no problem,
question, does the order of the spring washer, housing, matter ...much any comments?

Mason, The order, starting from the filter housing, is bolt, housing, spring, washer, filter. you then put it all onto the bottom of the engine. If the spring and washer are on TOP of the filter, you are NOT filtering ANY oil.
If in doubt, see a diagram in the manual or on the Yamaha parts catalog page.

can i just take the housing out and how much oil will i loose?

You will only loose about 1/2 to 1 pint of oil. I would go ahead and pull the housing, and install the parts in the proper order.
Remember on the next oil change, the washer likes to stick to the oil filter! be sure it does NOT stay on the filter. (DAMHIK)

Should be able to find a washer that will fit at any hardware store. Might have to open up the center hole a bit, like I did, but it will work just find after that. And, you might have to hunt for a thin washer, but they are out there. Outside diameter is not too critical.

my yamaha dealer have a few in stock , no shipping or waiting .
was not expensive ....
Mine was missing when I bought the bike , that spring with no washer rips the heck out of a filter

I think it was 65cents at the dealer . or there about..

Whoops ,
I reread and I was talking about the washer ....
not sure about the spring
But the dealer might be a good choice ...

I notice some of the dealer prices are decent while others are very steep if not impossible to get ...
