Not having a Special to look at, will the rear luggage rack with the adjustable backrest, like the one on my 81 Venturer1100 cross over and bolt onto a 80 Special? The reason for asking here, is I was outbid on a NOS carrier minus the backrest for the 81Standard and if it didn't fit on his SG, he would pass it on to me for same cost. I replaced mine with one that had to be polished up and some places it polished up down to the nickel. It is structually perfect, but wanted one that was either new or near as perfect as I could get. Mine has the original backrest installed, but always made it difficult to open the Yamaha color matched and striped trunk lid. Took me all these years, but was able to get a NOS Yamaha accessory adjustable backrest that fits the recesss in trunk, making for easier access to trunk, looks better, and is way more comfortable for passenger. If I was to end up with a carrier rack in near perfect cond. the bike will look nearly as well as it did the day I rode it off showroom floor, cept for adding stereo housing with the Alpine and Polk all weather audio and the new Tkat fork brace. I even found a NOS seat that is pristine and still have the leather Corbin tour seat for the super long hauls, although the original tour seat is nice and firm and comfortable. So, if one here knows and can answer that, would be helpful in my quest.....Thanks, Brant.

I had a hard time finding a backrest/rack for my sg. Tried two different ones, but neither was a direct fit and I didn't want to change everything else(seat, fender, etc.) Finally found one on ebay that bolts to the grab bar behind the tail light and underneath thegrab bar. Never seen one before like that, so I paid whatever he wanted for it. Point is, the grab bar on an sg makes it particularly hard to adapt a rack made for other years.
Chances are, he'll be in touch.

I might have a luggage rack from a 79 standard in my garage if you want it.
