  • blowing oil

Hi everyone... im trying to help a friend with his bike, its blowing oil out what appears to be a crank case vent hose. Any ideas as to what the problem is? Also this bike has no turn signals on it most of the wires have been removed for some dump reason. Im using a wire diagram i found online to trace the turn signal wires down...what bulb is suppose to go on the front and back?

Blowing oil out the vent could be too much oil in crankcase. Check oil level with bike on center stand, adjust as necessary.

Signals take 1157 (dual filament) up front, 1156 in back.

If he didn't drive it far, you are probably OK. The gas in the oil is usually from bad carbs/fuel petcocks.
Go to the main forum page, and look at the tips on the left. There will be plenty of help with rebuilding the carbs, and the petcocks.

That sounds like a plan. I'll get to those carbs first.....i really dont have time or space in my garage with all the other bikes lining up in it(every one wants to get ready for spring riding)...only hard bout this job is im coming in on repairs made by someone else...they butchered the wire harness

The Turn signals info is not entirely correct! IF he has a Special like you listed in your profile, then the front are also 1156. The Specials didn't use running lights, just turn signals. The Standard model used a Running/signal combo for the fronts.

As has been stated, both the carbs as well as the petcocks will probably need overhauling, but don't forget the Octopus. The vacuum valve control mounted onto the carbs with about 8 hoses coming out of it! If it's messed up, you might find it easier to just remove it/bypass it. The special petcocks WILL turn OFF, just have to remember to do so when stopped to prevent the possible recurrence of the Gas-a-oil incase the float needle valves don't do their job!

Also, there are tech tips from the MAIN FORUM PAGE that are not linked to from the Yellow Column, so check there as well.
