    replacement caliper pistons

    Hi,

I purchased a set of disc brake caliper pistons from PartsnMore. They arrived Friday. They are too small. The part # I ordered specifically mentions usage for XS11 Special (79 - 81). I am arranging to send them back, but I need a set. Has anyone ever experienced this problem with partsnMore?

PartsnMore\s part number 29-0516 is only for the rear caliper on a Special, which is the same size as both the fronts and the rear on a standard. They list it like this:

    Fits: Front & Rear, XS1100 (78-81),
    Fits: Rear, XS1100L (1980) Midnight Special, XS1100S (79-81) Special.

    Is that what you ordered?

      shoot

      Damn,

That is what I ordered. I see now that I ordered three rear pistons. Thanks, Ken.

The pistons for the front calipers are no longer available...anywhere. A couple of years ago I had to have a batch made at a machine shop just so I could get a set for myself. I was able to sell them all off however and I don't have any left. Sorry. You may have to relay on ebay for another set of calipers. You can use a caliper from the xs750-850 Specials on the 11. It is the same part.

Tim, how badly beat up are your existing pistons?

            still usable

            Hi,

My old ones are still usable, just a little dinged up from the effort of getting them out. The sealing surfaces are still good and shiny. I'll use them.

            Thanks,
            Tim

I'm not sure if Gaffer77 has used the ones he bought from you yet John.

It might be worth asking him.
