  • anyone running the X Pipe exhaust?

    I'm wondering if anyone has tried this exhaust. I can't manage to insert a link in this post - search for item #250068288747

      seems to me you have to take it off for changing the oil (filter)

        What did you want to know?

        Just opinions from someone who has used one. The usual stuff, fit, finish, performance gains, etc. It does seem like it needs to be taken off to change the oil filter. I know it is hidden under the engine but I do like the look of the x where the header pipes come together.

              Mathh has pointed out that oil filter change would be difficult without taking off the whole exhaust.

              A similar question is, does it fit at all with an oil cooler extension fitted?

              I've had a quick scan through the Fleabay write up and don't see it mentioned.

              It does look a smart piece of kit.

                taking the exhaust off to get the the filter does not bother me, on this bike that would be a piece of cake. i have to take the exhaust off my gixxer to do that and that requires a whole lot of work.

                  I didn't have one. The guys I worked with had them on their Kawasaki 750's they roadraced. I rode/raced my Honda 400.
                  They scavange very well. With the bike idling you can hold a small piece of paper by one exhaust outlet and it will suck it in and shoot it out the other side. It's actually a 4 into 1 into 2. The 4 header pipes come into a chamber with two muffler outlets.
                  These are the first chrome ones I've seen.
                  Pat Egan (designer of the exhaust) won the 400cc box-stock and 400cc production nationals against all RD400's. He gave me a buch of parts for my Hawk. He even made a tubular frame (stock frame was stamped steel with the engine a stressed member).

                        They had removable baffles, yes loud with the baffles in but not as loud as some bikes on the street.
                        I asked Pat if he was going to market his own brake pads and call them Maxi Pads.

                          Super trap

                          The 79 special thats been parked in my garage for 3 yrs now has a stainless 4 into 1 set of exhausts that lead into a supertrap muffler. I ran it briefly when I bought the bike, the sound is really quite tame; the muffler has 6 plates on its back end perhaps when I get the bike running again will use maybe 4 plates see what that sounds like! Anyone else ever come across an XS with a stainless supertrap setup? Bought the bike for parts, apparently the guy I bought it from kept itas a leen on unpaid rent, the bike was left outside in the weather for 3 yrs then I came along with $200. and a pick-up truck......and I just had to here it run, so after replacing one corroded pick-up, cleaning filthy carbs, it did run!

                            i would love to find a stainless setup for these bikes. that is what is on my gixxer. since everything seems to be steel, i will have to get what ever i get jet hot coated inside and out.

                              Desert1, I seem to recall that disc type (SuperTrapp) mufflers work oppisite I.E. more discs equal greater surface area and more free flowing. Fewer discs equals less surface area and greater back pressure. Let me know because I have been considering this type of system?
