  • What model is my XS1100?

I just purchased a 1980 XS1100 and I have no idea what model it is. I checked my serial number 4H3003288 and according to the Yamaha number listing my bike is the LG. What does that mean? Is it the 'Special', 'Midnight Special'???

I'm restoring this wonderful machine and I want to make sure that I'm ordering the correct replacement parts for it.

Thanks for any input and insight in getting this beauty back on the road.

    Steve,
The LG is a midnight special. The rims, air box, and other parts SHOULD have gold paint. If you go to the main forum paige, you should be able to find the information about the bike. There are a few owners here who really know the midnights, so I'll let them tell you more about them.
BTW, verify the frame and engine VIN is the same number. Sometimes people change engines around.

      XS11 LG

Thanks Ray I really appreciate it. There are so many variables with this bike so it's been difficult to verify the right parts.

You mentioned the FRAME and engine. Someone else also said something about checking the FRAME #. Where would that be? I can't find anything other than the factory sticker (which is a good thing that it's there) and the stamped SN on the opposite side of the front end.

That is the frame number, the one stamped into the steering neck. The engine number is stamped in the case just above and forward of the oil fill hole. The two numbers should be the same.
