  • Will These controls work on my bike.

Will these handlebar controls work on 1979 standard model? They appear to be VERY similar in design to what came on my bike from the factory. If wiring is the only potential issue I'm thinking I could likely sort that out.

Go ahead and buy them. They will work well. You may have to move some wires around in the hard shell connector, but that's really not difficult. I recently replaced the left side switches on my bike with one from a differnt model xs and all I had to do was remove all the wires from the connectors on the both switches, and swap the connectors so that the old connector is on the new switch. There is a special tool available to remove the round terminals from the connector. I bought mine at a shop that specializes in automotive electrical connectors. It's just a thin hollow tube inserted into a small screwdriver handle. I paid about 8 bucks for it. Hell you may get lucky and they will be plug n play.

The left side maybe a little trickier, but the right side is (functionally) universal for nearly all bikes. I wired in an '02 GSXR control on my right side because I wanted the push-pull throttle for my future FI project. It has a nice modern look. You could probably use a LH side control set off anything that didn't have a cable choke but even then you could just pull the cable.

The left side is the same except the wires are shorter. I got one to replace my broken one from my SF. Turns out I just swapped most of the inside parts and it works well.

          Thanks

Thanks for posting that link. I am also looking for some controls. I'd rather not rig up some funky thing that doesn't work like it should.
