  • WANTED .. Original part in original color

Hey all ... It's time to start the planed work on my bike and that work includes having the frame power coated to match the bikes tank and body parts. I want to paint this bike the original factory color but have no parts in original color. SO .. dose anyone have any original RED body part for the 1978 - 79 1100 standard bike. A side cover of seat cowl that I can buy or borrow to get the color match I want?
    Let me know and

MARRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE ON THE BOARD :-)

If you wanna keep original 79 color, I would keep the original semi-gloss black frame, will off-set and look better.

            Rob,

The Service Data sheets only call it MAGENTA RED, a very dark red, vs. the 79SF Carmine Red, and the later years New Ruby Red, both were much brighter almost Cardinal Reds!

I'm not sure why Yamaha called it Magenta, cause that's a fairly bright color as well?

I believe Randy's(electrical guru) is that color? Perhaps he could send you a decent quality photo of it? However, I know that it can be influenced by many factors, lighting, age, then your printer, etc.!

I know I will never get the perfect color match but wanted to do my best. I will tie my bike together with color. The wheels will also be red where they are currently black and gold where they are currently silver. Same treatment for disc's, red where they are currently black. With the tank etc painted red and gold pin striped it will be what I thing is nice.
So far as the color of red goes there is not much other then the speed the bike would do that I remember ... other then THAT color of red.

                Rob,

Was doing a search thru the PPGCarpaint website, found listing for Magenta Red, on some Kia Sephias, here's the color swatch, but they may not have scanned it very well, looks a bit darker than how it does in real life! This one is actually a Magenta Red Metallic!

Hey thanks TC. I have already tried the custom matching places that I could find for "vintage" paint with no luck. This might be a close as I can get.
                  Thanks Again

The 78E was called Macho Maroon, I will search for the color code.
And FFS, paint the frame black. Especially if you want the original color.

                    http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...ght=color+code

I had color code for macho maroon, but cannot find it atm...
lemme know if everything else fails. I will check backups.

This was all I could find but I don't think it will be of much use to me because it is a Factory code.

                        original macho maroon

                        Hey 79XS11F,
Rhona's a 78E, and still all original color (with the gold double pinstripe), etc... I'd be willing to lend you a sidecover (prob cheaper to ship than a seat) or something if you wanted to match that color. Or I could run up to my buddies house where I keep her and take more pics. If you're interested, let me know.

That would be GREAT but shipping is not necessary. If you would be so kind as to take a side cover to a paint shop that has a color reader that they use for their own matching needs they could produce a mixing code for whatever brand of paint they are using in their shop. That mixing code and paint brand is all I really need.
I will venture to guess that there are a limited number of paint suppliers and most Canadian shops likely also use paint from American companies or sources.

Yeah, I can do that. It may take me a few days to run up there, grab the cover, and track down a shop that has a color reader. (not sure how common color readers are)

Also, I can email you the couple/few pics I have so you can see the details of the color scheme. PM me if interested.
