    "Chrome won't get ya home..."

    But it sure looks purty.
    All depends, Tmon.
If the chrome's still nice, and it goes well with the rest of the bike, keep it.
But a "Blacked out" bike, with a few chrome parts looks good, too.

the bike is in great condition except for a few chips here and there and on the handlebars. However I am thinking of changing the color from the original burgandy or what ever color it is to an emerald green or a mocha. possibly with some subtle ghost graphics. so I cant make up my mind if the chrome still look good or if I need to pain the fenders.

If your idea is to modify the bike then I say paint the fenders. I'm
with your son on this one and I'm 56 years old.
"Just say no to chrome" is my slogan and painted doesn't only mean black. I think like in most things the factories used chrome fenders because it was cheap. In the rear they didn't even use a full fender. Hey, you asked?

Definition of perfect pitch: throwing a picolo and hitting the tiolet on the first try.

Did you hear about the drummer that locked his keys in his car?
... it took two hours to get him out.

what do you call a drummer that lost his girlfriend?
            Homeless.

Well, if you were going to resore the machine then I would say keep the chrome.

But, since you are going to modify and upgrade the bike then definately paint. Painting the front and rear fenders along with the tank and side covers gives you a bigger canvas to work with.

......nothing funny to say here. I just cant beat the picolo and toilet thing.

                  hard choice

I have been working the same problem for both My XS11 and xS750. I figure since both are not original I will paint. Removal can be a problem but the sport fenders from JCW seem to be a good cheep choice for a workable material. They are from Maier and you can get the one with or with out the spoiler. I am thinking a full valance fender for the 11 rear too.

In case anyone wants to try painting a fender and does not want to use there own chrome one. I have 3 rear fenders and two front fenders from standard models that all have slight nicks or dings some pitting etc that would look beter with paint than remain chrome. $18 each includes shipping continental USA.andreas

Make sure your fork brace will fit, if you have one or will be getting one.

If you want to be sure, take the fender to a plating shop and have the chrome stripped in a reverse process. Sandblast and or glass bead the stripped fender and you're ready to go for paint or powdercoat.

They were all chrome except the MNS. I have some nice chrome fenders for an 80 Special if you'd like to trade.
