    Fork brace

One of the members here makes a beautiful brace for our bikes. Go to www.TKAT.com and email them. I bought one for my 80 1100 special and it was delivered very fast. The difference is unbelievable!

      Speedo ratio...

Once a long time ago I was calibrating speedos for the Hunting Park Police Dept and every speedo I saw, car and bike was the same. 2000 RPM = 60 MPH The Yamaha speedo is the same although their speedos all read 5 MPH faster than actual. So if you want to keep on being off by 5 MPH, 2000 RPM = 65 MPH. Most any speedo will give you the correct reading provided your tire and rim size are correct.

Different models use different ratios. Front tire can be up to 21 inch.

There is supposed to be a "self calibrating" electronic after market speedo for harleys, but have never had one so don't know how they work.

I have an '82 XJ1100J Maxim with the D#! Carter 55MPH dial on the speedo. If I can find an earlier or later model that has a 120~140MPH dial, whichever was original, will the speedo drive still work? Can you change the spring setting in the speedo to reflect the original speed, pre Carter? Let me know and I will have my wife look in Japan for the replacement speedo dial plate or entire speedo.
