Dented stock exhaust.

I was lucky enough to get some stock exhaust on my 79 special, but they are pretty beat up. The rust is bad enough that I think all I can do is paint them. But there's some deep scratches and dents. Is there any way I can fix them? I don't suppose bondo can stand the heat? I have some harley mufflers, but I'd rather not cut the stock system up just to have the headers.
