    160 mph Speedometer

I have only owned my 1980 XS1100G for a few months and love riding this bike. It has a 160 mph speedometer. According to information that has been on this web site, it is suspose to have one that only goes to 85 mph. Is this true for all 1980 XS1100G's or has one of the previous owners changed the speedometer? Thanks

      Not according to this.

From what I've read around this site, the change was due to a law change in the US that limited motorcycle spedometers to 85 mph. If your 1980 model goes to 160 it is either a non-US model or the spedo was replaced. I'd bet on the latter.

        Addition:

If you reference the serial number to what's listed on this thread you can tell if your model is a US or non-US model.

My 80g came with a 85mph speedo from the factory. My ex Kaw 1100 had a 85 speedo.

Thanks to a member here, I now have a 160 speedo. I'm having a much harder time burying the needle on that one.
          When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

My 79 came with a 160 mph speedo and my 80 came with a 85 mph unit. The 79 has now been reduced to a pile (well, several boxes) of parts due to the fact that the PO drove it off a cliff and bent the frame. The 80 runs great thanks to everyone here. Guess which speedo is on the 80 now?
If it aint broke....it aint mine!:(
