  • She lives

That's right, Succubus breathes again. Vroom. She still hasn't moved under her own power as I discovered that my float bowl gaskets, which were not replaced, are actually in worse shape than they looked and they looked pretty bad. Two seem to hold gas, one is sorta holding gas and one may not be there at all. Does anybody have any float bowl gaskets they can spare.

And, of course, there are a lot of adjustments tl be made in the near future.

I think I'm going to need bigger jets too. The carbs have stock 137.5, but I just put on a pretty nice 4-1 header I got from Webbcraft. I'm running a Uni air filter in the stock box. I remember seeing a posting somewhere in tech tips on how to adjust jet size to make up for changes in carb air flow, but I can't seem to find it now. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, does anyone have any right size jets you aren't actually using now?

There is life in my new love. Now I have to make her purr.... Maybe, just maybe, she'll be ready for Houston come Thanksgiving weekend. If someone can tell me how to post pictures on this site I will provide some before and after shots.

My thanks to all who have so generously helped with with parts.

I found float bowl gaskets on Ebay and I found the tech tips on jet sizing. From my calculations I need to go up two jet sizes for the 4-1 exhaust and one for the Uni air filter, then down one, meaning I need to go up to 142.5 mains and keep the same pilots, right? Would it be best to leave the jet needle circlip in the middle to start? Is anyone running a similar setup and can provide me with a good starting point?

She chugs pretty good right now, but she's firing on all four cylinders and I haven't yet even started tuning the carbs. She started easily, though. Maybe too easily. suspect she may have designs on me...

      Look here

I found it invaluable with my E. It has Jardine 4 into 2, K&N in stock airbox, Dyna coils. I raised the needle one notch (a PITA to do) and went up one size on the mains.

My LG has 4 into 1, K&N in stock airbox and I haven't touched the carbs. Runs fine. After the big bore kit I will follow the steps on the CV tuning site to dial everything in.

        Patrick,
BEFORE playing with the jets, needles, or anything else on the carbs, you NEED to get them synced!
Once they are in sync, follow the directions in the tech tips to adjust the pilot screws, and THEN take it out and ride for a little while. Once you've put a few miles on it, you can then check the plugs to see if they are black, tan, or white.
These bikes will run well even if the carbs are out, but run REALLY WELL once everything is dialed in.

Be careful of ebay gaskets. I bought some floatbowl gaskets for my buddies kz from a seller that was something like N.C.C.P? Anyway, they were garbage that looked like it might be homemade out of gasket material that was to thin and leaked the first time i used them and some of the holes were out of alignment.

It's probably a good idea to synch them and set the air screws first to see how it runs with the originals, but I figured as long as I had to pull them to install new gaskets anyway I should go ahead and change the jets at the same time. I don't really mind pulling the carbs, but I don't want to do it more than necessary. If I get lucky I might get away with pulling and synching them once. It occurs to me that I have some 140s out there from an ill-fated purchase I made for my Honda - they left a really nifty smoke screen behind the bike when I ran them in the 750, which takes 105s stock - so I think I'll plug them in when I put in the gaskets and see how it works out.
