does anybody have the actual alternator removal tool?? Can I get this from the Yammy Dealer?

I have broken a set of 3 jaw pullers, and cracked the lower engine case trying to get the dang alternator off.

Figured I'd stop breaking stuff while I was ahead.

The pullers weren't an expensive set, so no big loss, but the way the jaws were set wouldn't allow me to pull effectively from the outside or the inside of the alternator. Maybe I had bottle of stupid pills this morning, as no way I tried could I get the pullers to keep from sliding off the rotor.

    appreciate it.

It was mentioned here a little while ago that the rear axle had the same threads as the alternator rotor, and could be used in a pinch to remove the rotor.

      Have removed several rotors.
My pullers have fit just fine, but even wacking em with a hammer would not dislodge the rotors.

Heated with torch after getting puller tight, then one or two taps with hammer and rotors pop off.

        for the record...
my rear axle is a 20mm shaft with almost 18mm threads... no dice
front axle 17mm shaft, 14 mm threads. no soup there either.

the pullers i have are cheapies ($10). they broke. Gotta love some of the stuff that is made is China. I could have been doing something wrong. returning them today for another cheap set (haven't learned my lesson). MRO- I tried on the outside behind the rotor, outside in between the welded slots, and inside the rotor, in between the welded slots. no dice on that. Maybe I should have spent the $60 on the pullers from NAPA. I was working on the inside when the ear of one of the jaws popped off. I think when I exchange the pullers on Sunday, that I'll look for a 16mm 1.5 pitch bolt and use that with the heat. Saw on an older post MotionPro makes a bolt for this thing, and it's $10. Winterhawk posted the link before, but here it is again.

Also, saw on there they had some combo ratchet wrenches on clearance, if anyone is interested. Odd sizes for our machines... no 10 or 12mm. Link HERE

Anyway, appreciate your input. I guess I'll post on what I end up doing if it is different from any methods that have been previously mentioned. Thanks again.

I have taken many of those off by using a heavy canvas or nylon strap (thick one ) Use the strap as a cushion or buffer. Lay strap folded several times on top of rotor and proceed to hit hard with a big hammer. Usually the jolt is enough to loosen it off.

            Hey Theron,

Many auto stores allow you to borrow/rent the fancier better rarely used/needed tools like pullers for a modest fee! So...if you still can't get the thing off with the el-cheapo puller, or it breaks again, then you might want to look into that option!?

I too have a couple of the "cheapies" I was able to get the rotor off with them, but not by using the jaws. The center bolt for the puller was the same size as the threades inside the rotor. Tighten, hit the bolt, repeat as needed. Think it was about 3-4 hits and off it came.

It's just dang near amazing what happens when you get the right tools. I never could get the pullers to work. Tried heat to no avail, and then just bought the right tool....The 16x1.5mm bolt worked perfectly, except for the skin that is missing off my thumb from when it came uncorked.

                  Appreciate everyone's input on this.
