  • Speedo Cable

I was ridin the bike the other day, trying to get it running good again and the windshield isnt on right now. Does any1 know what could have made my speedometer just stop working?

There are 2 common failures. First is a broken cable, ususally they break right were the metal ferrule is crimped onto the black housing down by the front wheel.

Second is in the speedo drive on the front axle. Yamaha uses a thin plate with 2 'tangs' on it; these stick up and actually move the gear in the speedo drive unit. Very common for these tangs to break. Not expensive, avalable from Yamaha, and you should also change the oil seal that is installed on the same side as the speedo drive.

Here is a link to a front wheel / axle / speedo drive .pdf:

Look for item #7, Clutch, meter.
