  • Timing plate woe's

    Hi all,

I've got an 1980 Special that runs GREAT, except at idle. From

idle to about 2500 rpm the timing plate is dancing so hard it

allmost sounds like an engine knock. I've checked the vacuum

diaphram and didn't find a leak, changed out the hose but to no

    avail.

Any ideas on whats going on?

Are you sure the vacuum hose is hooked up to the correct place. It should be hooked up to the #2 carb, I believe, and not to the place on the carb boot.

Be sure the hose is connected to the arb nipple (carb #2), not the a nipple on the head.

Yep...what they said. Vacuum line to the nipple actually ON the # 2 carb...NOT to the nipple on the carb boot.

That did the trick!!! The yahoos down at the shop wanted to

charge me $500 for a new vacuum pod LOL. Now to find

someone else to resync the carbs.

                Ced,

Where in Kansas are you located? Just got a Morgan CarbTune and synced the carbs in under 10min.
