  • Driveshaft & Driveshaft yoke

looking at the exploded view of the 80 driveshaft, yoke, and final drive components...

    exploded view here

I am trying to get the yoke (middle drive) separated from the driveshaft. Where is that pesky circlip? does it hold the yoke onto the driveshaft?? (not likely) or does it keep the yoke from slipping down the driveshaft too far?? or??

I'm having a helluva time trying to figure out how to separate the yoke and shaft from each other so that I can get the driveshaft out.

    Thanks for your help

Looks like it's inside the U-joint, behind the yoke.

turns out that circlip is about a 1/4" from the end of the driveshaft. it sits within the splines and kind of locks the yoke onto the shaft. i couldn't see it at all until I got the thing apart with some persuasive taps from the deadblow hammer.

      thanks,

I had accidently removed my Drive shaft while greasing my final drive Swore I would never do it again, it was the hardest thing
in my years of wrenching trying to get that shaft back in without having to remove middle drive ,trying to get the yoke lined up to hit the shaft home was very interesting,as it stands my drive shaft circlip sits in the botom of my tool box I was scared at first to run bike but I put on about 7000k and no problems yet.
