Hi

#1 Anyone happen to know if a Xj650 G 1980 vetter fairing bracket would fit my 1980 XS1100 special

#2 Do I have to remove headlight bucket and headlight ears to
install the IV windjammer or can I just remove the bucket and
leave ears alone.

#3 This fairing has a radio in it as well as running lights can I run it ok with stock charging system, with out blowing anything up.
or do I need to upgrade something

thanks in advance

Ljay,
#1. The fairing will fit, but the bracket WILL NOT. You will need to find the bracket for the XS1100GS, or have one built.
#2. The ears can usually be rotated so they are towards the center of the forks. There may be something in the way, and the easiest is to just remove them.
#3. You should be able to run everything with no problems. If you have "extra" lights in back, such as brake lights, you may want to change the bulbs to LED's. They will use about 15% of the energy of a standard bulb.

Hi and thanks for your reply!

Do I specifically need the "XS1100SG bracket" or will other brackets from other year and models of XS's be compatible They may be easier to find
a bracket than trying to find a specific year and model hopefully
I imagine there getting rare
thanks again

The bracket will be the same for the '79 to 81 specials. I do not have any specials, so I can't help on a design.

#3 When I added a stereo to my XS I found the fairing bounced too much to play a CD. The radio worked until I activated a turn signal. Then too much 'juice' went to the turn signal and the radio shut-off.
Cruising down a smooth road was nice tho. Around town it was too loud. If it was up loud enough to hear then it bothered those around me (I know, there's aalways someone blasting their stereo at a stoplight. It's not me).
If I want tunes I use my personal cassette or CD player in the tank bag and earbuds. Mostly I like to hear my bike singing to me.

I have run a radio for years on my 80g. The amount it draws is peanuts. I changed to a CD player a few years ago. Even with anti-skip, I have problems when using the CD in town. Not much skip on highway runs. I have gotten good at adjusting the volume before stoping. As for the running lights, watch out for them. Before I became educated in the ways of weak charging, i had a couple of nifty 55w. lights mounted on my crash bars. Looked great, lotsa light but killed the battery quickly. Off they came. I have a small, LED voltmeter mounter on my front master cylinder. It gives me a heads up on battery condition and charge rate. It did save me from a potential problem on the return trip from Galvaston this year when the battery kinda gave it up on the road.I was able to make it home ok. Without the LED meter, I would not have known something was up till it was too late.

I have the bracket for the 79 special also. Took the windjammer faring off a long time ago. The bracket is laying in the garage.

I guess I should have clarified a little better the running lights that I was refering to happen to be the front turn signals on the fairing
at least I think they're running lights I have not hooked them up yet still in search of harness as well.

I thought about the Cd player have one in the basement but im sure it would skip too, and I'ts against Minnesota laws to wear ear buds and walkman, hehehe ( I know speeding is to I already tried that route with my ipod, plus the ear buds were a pain trying to keep them in my ear while I put my helmet on seems always one fell out
thanks all for the input

I gotta spare Windjammer harness (fairing to bike) if one of the other guys don't have one. Yes, there are running lights in the fairing. As for the headlight ears, just turn them in toward each other. My 80g hardbagger came that way from the factory.
When you put a radio in, make sure its expendable, riding in a bike fairing is brutal on em. Note: buy a cheap shower cap and keep in the fairing pocket, great for protecting the radio from dirt, dust and rain when its parked. Or, if your into it, just wear it while your riding.

I seldom run the CD player when tooling around town. used mostly on highway rides.

I need a bracket too

I see two offers for brackets and only one person looking for one. I also am looking for a Vetter fairing bracket for a '79 XS F. I would be interested in whichever one LJay40 doesn't want, if either of you guys want to email me...

'Zip a dee do da."

Use a zip-tie to hold both those headlight ears together. Don't recall if this would happen on your application, but saw a bike once where the headlight ears rotated forward, wedged in the fairing and stopped the handlebars from turning.

Now thats a really good idea thank you for the advice on that
Do you guys just let your wires hang as well being tied up with zip ties? Or do you bag them up? They have all been coated with dielectric grease so Im sure I could just bag them up without having to worry about corosion to much I guess
