  • turn signal erratic

The left turn signal on my 79 1100 Special works fine. My right one usually* only works if I move the switch to the left one and immediately move it to the right. Then the right side will blink.

    * sometimes the right one does work when I move the switch to the right, but most times not.

Does this sound like the switch? Or something else?

Probaly a dirty switch. You can pull it apart and clean the contacts, then grease the inside with dielectric grease. It should last another 25+ years afterwards.

      I'd rather light than switch!

I can't remember the terminology, I think it was called a reed switch or butterfly switch, there are two "blades" that are contacted when you slide the switch left or right, but they can get bent as well as corroded, so while you have it apart, clean it and inspect the position of the right one relative to the left one, and you may need to just give it a slight bend to put it back into it's original position.
