  • XS 1100SF engin rebuild

This winter I am gong to pull the engine on my 1979 XS1100 special and rebuild it and fix 2nd gear. Does any one out there have any recommendations on where to get an engine rebuild kit?
Also I want to rebuild the front brake master cylinder. it is very hard to squeeze the brake. If I bleed it, it gets easy for a couple of pulls and then it gets almost rock hard again. Has anyone else experienced this?

.. the return hole is pluged. it's the smallest hole at the bottom of your resevour.

      Hey there PoolShooter,

Welcome to the FORUM. As for a rebuild "KIT", there are gasket sets you can get from PNM which includes the head gasket as well. As for the engine, that's a bit tougher. A fellow here did a rebuild using the OEM pistons, with the 1st oversize rings, and has been working well for several years.

Others have done the WiseCo Big Bore kit, 2 flavors, 1179 or 1196cc depending on how thin you want your cylinder walls to be!
You'll encounter the boring costs from $40-60 a hole x 4! Unless you can use some of the equipment you may have access to where you work??

There's info in the tech tips, FROM THE MAIN FORUM PAGE, scrolling down to the tips, which may help you in your 2nd gear fix, note the info about 1st gear as well!!

Check out the tips on the brakes, regarding the SPOOGE HOLE, sounds like yours is plugged, causing the HARD brakes!

Lots of the problems are covered in the tech tips, and many more in the FORUM, by using the threads search feature.

      Good Luck on your rebuild!
