  • Colortuning

My new colortune arrives in the mail today and after reading the tech tips on it, I am not sure what color I should be shooting for. Is it when the flame first starts to yellow..?

It is when the flame is blue. There should a guide/user manual (RTFB) included with the kit. Mine had one. I noticed with mine that sometimes the cylinder would misfire with the colortune in, but not miss a lick when the spark plug was reinstalled. Made it hard to get a consistant flame. Did you have the same problem?

I haven't gotten to use yet. But in the tech tips it said that the choise blue in the manual was actually a little lean for the XS.

        Colortune Misfire

Did not have that problem, but don't let it get to hot or the plastic view tube starts to melt (some people just know the worst time to come over and ask questions). Works great settled some issues i was having with my XJ650 below 2k RPMs.

John I noticed that misfire too. Nothing drastic but it did make it harder to adjust. The flame color in the literature says cobalt blue is good but I did read in one of the tech tips that that was a little lean . It went on to say that 1100 should be adjusted to a gold ring around the edge of the blue and that would put you were you want to be.

Once you're got the colortune in and the engine running at a nice, low idle (i.e. 800 rpm or so), you will be able to correlate the color with the sound of the engine to find the smoothest point as you adjust the screws.
