The front brake lines are different. The standard front lines will fit '78 to 81, and the special fits '79 to 81, IIRC. I think you could send an email to the ebay seller, and buy the correct lines from them.
They do make a HUGE difference on the stopping power.

Just checked out the Galfer home page. They will custom make the lines, and color coat them if wanted. May go that route for my restore.1979 XS1100 SF

Hey Yammy,
I got mine from www.helusa.com !! A variety of colors including the metal banjo fittings. The banjo fittings are custom fitted to the lines, they don't just screw on. IIRC, the charge was about $50 per line no matter what length. I went with the 3 lines being joined together for the front...OEM setup, but to save $$ you could use 2 longer lines and a longer banjo bolt at the MC instead to save $50.00 .
They have a SET for the XS11 on their web site, but the guy is very friendly and helpful in ensuring that you get the right length and banjo angles you want.

Last spring I bought a set from this place:

Instead of changing to two full length lines I shipped my old setup, (single line from m/c and double from distributor block to calipers), and had them duplicate it.
It was ~$120 and came with all gaskets and new banjo bolts etc. Pretty good communication and customer service.

Tired of doing a search. Looking for a company that sells the complete stainless steel brake line kit for an '80 11 sg I tried HELUSA.com but they did not list the '80 model in their cataloge.Seems like it would be cheaper to buy a kit vs taking each line off and having it custom made.I don't need custom colors just plain old black or what ever.My reaction time is not what it was when I was a young good looking stud:-) Brake lines are 27 years old and after reading many,many threads on here I realize I need to up grade and I do not plan on ever buying a new bike.'80 XS1100 SG

Randy's not making the lines anymore, he wasn't able to get the parts like he used to, etc., so he's not into that now!
Hey Stepp, IIRC, they had a set for a SPECIAL, the 80 and the 79 should be the same. I just had custom lengths made due to my 4" over fork tubes! As I said above, instead of putting the same 3 hoses on the front with the "Y" fitting, you can use 2 extra long hoses and just use a longer banjo bolt at the MC! HELUSA has basic black, SS/clear finish as well as colors. Just take a string and run it from your master cylinder following the lines all the way down to the calipers, and be sure to allow for the curves in the lines=slack for shock travel, and then just request lines be made with that length. Specify the 15 degree angle fittings for the caliper and MC ends IIRC, and the longer banjo bolt for the front MC, and you'll be good to go.
The rear line doesn't really need to be replaced with SS IMHO, it's much shorter, and is at least 1/2 solid line anyways, and it's easy to lock up the rear wheel with the OEM hose, but if you want a matching set, then just state the regular length for the rear hose!
I remember an Xsive posting about putting Galfer lines on his. You can even find them(SS) at your local H-D dealer, standard 10mm size, but again you'll need to know the lengths you need and the angle of the fittings!

Some steel lines have different internal diameter than others, my steel lines improved braking power but the stock 16mm XS11 master cylinder made the brakes feel wooden, designed for some hose flex probably, a smaller 14mm cylinder gives way better feel with the same braking power, did on mine anyway. Here's some brake info from a motorbike website
M/C bore area summary: The bigger the area of the bore, the less pressure is generated for a given input lever force. The smaller the bore area, the more pressure can be generated from that same input force
M/C volume summary: The bigger the area of the bore, the less stroke required to move a given volume. The smaller the bore area, the more stroke is required to move that same volume.
Combining the two summaries is the key to understanding master cylinder sizing:
The bigger the bore, less stroke but more force will be required to reach a given pressure. The smaller the bore, more stroke but less force will be required to reach that same given pressure.

Well I just got an e mail back from HELUSA,about a thirty minute turn around!!!!He asked me to confirm my line lenghts as he has several 1100 specs on hand as all lines are made to order.WOW that was quick,on a saturday nite to boot. TC recommended them so that is why I gave them a try.I am going with them period. thanks for the other input.:-)Geeze,TC is replying as I am writing this,thank you!!My brakes are not up to snuff and after reading probably over a hundred brake threads ss is the way to go..........There were several threads on this subject,all older I might add but enjoyed them all and learned alot,good golly am I slow or what!! PGGG just gave me some info,thank you!! too. As I hunt and peck my way thru these keys good nite:-) The info is overwhelming but you wanna know what the best part is,I know none of it is bs,just another rider trying to help another rider on this site.

S/S brake lines
Just wanted to thank you all for the info on the S/S brake lines. I didn't realize how long it has been since I was here last WOW!! its been longer than I thought.
