  • Throttle Stuck!!

Was out for a ride yesterday with my wife along and came upon a long steep hill. What to do...open throttle....wide! The problem came when I rolled off, it stuck about half throttle. I managed to get home and found number 1 carb was binding. I loosened the nut that is held in place with the folded washer and it snapped free. The thing that puzzles me is that the washer was undisturbed. Anyone else had this happen?

Never had the problem, but I think a light coat of WD40 may help.

Had you taken the carbs completely apart for a cleaning lately?
I usually remove all parts of the carbs for a complete cleaning. When reinstalling the butterfly plate can sometimes will be off just enough to cause it to bind against the carb body. I have had this happen before while riding the rpm would rise and not come back down after releasing the throttle, rode from Corpus Christi to Victoria doing 85 mph using my brakes to slow down when necessary. The trip was about 100 miles at night but mostly riding down the highway. Remove the carbs and readjust the butterfly plates and locktite them in. That was about 2 or 3 years ago. Also had a throttle cable that was going bad did not help either.

Having the same problem on my Dad's 79F. I was able to lube throttle with WD-40 and that helped. I have been too lazy and havent taken the carbs off. Now when you let off the throttle it kinda catches at around 2500 rpm for a second and drops down. It is more of a delay than a catch.
