  • R1 Caliper adapters

I am in the process of setting up to cut a pair of adapter to mount R1 calipers on my 'F'. I am milling them out of 3/8" 6061. If anybody is interested, PM me. You would be looking at $35 plus shipping (2lbs USPS from 98512)

I should have them done this weekend and will try to get some pictures posted.

I picked the R1 calipers, lines, and MC with lever on eBay. I have been running the R1 MC for some time and now getting around to making the adapter for the calipers.

    Cool

Can the calipers be adapted to a Special? I know that the adaptor will need to be different, but could you do it? Would you need a Special fork tube as a sample? Have you entertained thoughts of adapting some other system to the rear?

        will it work

I can make these fit the standard's caliper, just have to trim some 1/8" of the xs11 lower pad to fit.

Specials have those silly "Pin" mounted calipers. There is nothing to mount to. What were they thinking?

I don't think it would be that tough to fit a R1 rear caliper to the XS.

The R1 caliper is a bit over 11 1/2" in diameter.

              11.5?

Maybe I didn't explain...What is the distance from the outter pad surface to inner pad surface of the R1 caliper, (width of rotor grab surface)?

the distance in RED is what I need to know, The distance in blue is where the stock xs11 caliper/pad rides, Thats why I would have to trim the xs11 pad....thanks...chop

Oops, That should have been the "rotor" is 11.5" in diameter. But, that still does not answser your question. I will measure them when I get home this evening. From your picture, they should work great, as the R1 pads cover about 60% of the XS rotor.

If there is less contact, what is the purpose? To update to a more modern caliper? Would it be cheaper/better than going to a floating rotor from ebc/mikesxs? Just curious.

                      Thanks denny

Let me know, because your bracket is the solution I need for a bolt on setup. The reason I went with using these vfr/cbr rotors is that they are 298mm just like the xs11's, so if your braket will position the R1 caliper to the xs11 rotor, then everything will fit and line up....thanks, chop...oh yeah good buy on the FD!

Floating rotors are cool. You will need to create a spacer for those rotors. They don't look like they have as much back space as the xs11 rotors.

                          sorry guy

These are a perfect fit on the hub(after .5mm trimming of course) and sit right in the xs11' caliper. Plus these actually mimic the wheel pattern's 7 spoke.

                            Rotors

SORRY GUY!!! The only thing that is sorry is your attitude. The pictures make the rotor look flat. It did not look like it had enough back space. Why don't you bite my head off for trying to help!!!!

                              R1 Calipers

The big advantage to the R1 Caliper is they are 4 piston, weigh less and have those cool blue plugs on them!
