  • installing idle fuel mixture orings n washers

im installing the washers and orings under the idle fuel mixture screws, i know it goes screw ,spring washer, then oring. but how do i put the oring on ? the fatter part of the screw under the washer and spring , to hold the washer and spring in place? do i need to pull the carbs again or no? the origional orings are gone i believe i can fish out the washer and spring from the top with a thin wire? thanks for your help brian

Holding the big end of the screw, slip on the spring, then the washer, then the o-ring. The o-ring should be just tight enough to hold everything together while you install it.

A piece of wire like this one will help you get the washer and old o-ring out:

I have a similar issue. I was taking my carbs all apart (again), paying special attention to the pilot circuit (Tuneup Troubles thread).

My question is this: Did the '78 carbs have the O-ring and washer too? The pilot screw is straight where the threads are, with a continuous taper down to the tip. I don't know how a washer would sit in there, but there aren't any in my carbs. Do I need to order some? Thanks.

BTW, another good way to get something small out (i.e. the washer, etc...), rather than a piece of wire, is to go to a dentists' office and see if they have any old tools they're going to get rid of. I got three yesterday, no charge.

        Hey Erik,

No washer, the spring was larger and had prominent flat surfaces on the ends that act sorta like washer!

Thanks, T.C. That's good to know. Now I'm just waiting on a Main Nozzle to get here. When I took #3 apart, I found it was cracked. Probably not the cause of my problems, but I'd rather have a part that doesn't have holes where it's not supposed to....
