  • 17" rear rim

i've looked throught the threads but am unsure as to weather or not they ever made a 17" rear tubeless rim?

Yes, the Standards use the 17" rims, they had them in 79, definitely 80 and 81. It will say "Suitable for Tubeless" stamped on the spokes!

Yep. Just bought one but they are hard to find. I searched for weeks and finally found one at a local salvage.

The tubeless was a 1980/1981 rim. '78 and '79 were tube type. The stamp is just that, it looks as if someone took metal staps and put it on one spoke of the rim. The second sign is the two flats for the "rim locks" have NOT been machined.

About half way throught the 79 production year the 17"rear tube type rim was changed to the tubeless rims. We were given a technical bulletin for the XS750SF, XS1100F and the XS650SF with the E/N of the bikes that began the change to tubeless rims & tires. The XS750F and XS1100SF started out with tubeless rims. This was Bulletin M8-030 & replacement M8-030A with the addition of the XS650. We replaced many 78 XS1100E's & early 79 XS1100F's with tubeless rims.

My 1979 Rims says "tubeless type" and the tires on it right now are tubeless. My original 78 also used "tubeless" type rims.
Maybe it's a Canadian model thing?

Maybe it's a "PO changed the rim's thing." Are you the "OO" (original owner)?

'78 were definitely tubeless from the factory. However some frames stamped with '79 manufacture dates may have been actual '80 models and had the tubeless wheels from the factory.
