  • What Neutralizes Brake Fluid On Painted Plastic Side Cover?

I think I got some brake fluid on a rag that ended up on my side cover that was off the bike. It is sticky and soap and water won't touch it and precleano makes it worse for a better word to use and it all wouldn't be so bad but it was perfect so any chemist out there??? HELP HELP!!!! THANKS

    ouch!

A higher molecular weight hydrocarbon, such as paint itself neutralizes the brake fluid. I think the "sticky" stuff on your rag is the clearcoat from the side cover. Clean with hot soapy water. you may have to re-clearcoat it again.....

you probably don't even need the soap. Water will cut the BF just fine. Rinse well

it is to the point of blisters so water is not going to help I am just trying to stop it and find some way to neutralize it so I can paint it.

Not to be too persistant, but from a guy who has been painting cars for 20+ years, the only thing that cuts dot3 is water. I/he could be wrong and I would love to be informed otherwise (Guru's GO!). He told me that after I used brake fluid to strip the old '65 VW paint (lazy teenager!).
