  • Right jet sizes

Okay I am about to order some newmain/pilot jets from MikesXS and need to make sure I am getting the right ones.
Based off the suggested jetting page in the tech tips here is what I get:
    Dual inlet K/N +3
    4-2 +1

    That gives me 4-1+3 Main jets 2.5*3 =7.5 +120 stock= 127.5
    Add 1 to the pilot 42.5 +2.5= 45
So with that in mind I get part #s 48-0116 main and 48-0607 pilots. Are these the correct jets or am I looking at the wrong parts? Also is it possible to use the earlier type slide needles in '80 carbs and if so would it be worth it versus useing stacked washers for tuning? I currently have 110/42.5 across the board and no added washers to the needles and I am running very lean so I am trying to get this fixed.

.. 127.5 is way too rich, i would try 117.5 mains and 45 pilots first.
that should get you in the ball park safely.

Okay I was going off the 120 factory jet size. I know it came as 110/120 but was looking to make it even across the board. Mikes only seems to offer 115 and 120 nothing in between could I get by with the 120 and then tunning the idle and mid range to work? I am buying someother things from Mikes and wanted to make one purchase which is why I am not looking elsewhere at the moment but will order somewhere else if I need tofor the right jet size.

        Crew,

I'm running 117.5's with my 4-1 pipes and Indy filters, and have a small amount of plug color, my dyno run showed that I could possibly have gone up another size or so, mine also came stock 110's, so you should be okay with 120's. I also have the stock 42.5 pilots, cause I couldn't get a couple out(5 years ago), and didn't want to bother/mess them up, just turned the pilot screws out another turn. idles just fine, starts fine, rolls thru the low response with no problems! YMMV !

Okay I think I 'll go ahead and get the 120/45 combo and go from there. I can always go back to the 42.5 and adjust them some and play with the needles as well.

Also the plastic plugs in the float bowl aren't supposed to be used correct? Don't have any currently.

              BTW,

Those types of jets, mains and pilots are correct, just remember to change the # of the mains for the smaller size!

Correct, you don't use the rubber pilot jet tower caps, the 80 carbs get their pilot circuit flow directly from the bowl, NOT thru the mains like in the 78-79 carbs!
