  • Possible to roll back odometer?

I'm curious if it's possible to roll back the odometer. The face has obviously been removed and I'm wondering if the PO rolled it back. Bought it with 15k on it and it was in pretty good shape. I think he stored it outside too.

I don't know about rolling it back, but you might be able to chuck the cable up in a drill and roll it forward.

Use a dremell, it's faster. It turns the odo backwards.

My question to you is why? Do you want the odo miles to match a motor miles? Trying to sell for more? Be proud of your miles, not many bikes last as long as the XS.

I think he was asking because it appeared a previous owner had been inside the case, he's thinking it may have had more miles than the possibly altered clock showed...

I got an instrument cluster off ebay with 50k on.
            I have a bike with 14k.
Any faster ways of rolling it back/forward.... its all in metric (24 kkm/80-ish kkm)

Just ride a bunch! (sh!t-ton is the technical term) . . . and it will soon be rolled back around for another go!

Been working on this one a little while . . . almost have it back around already!

Is that a metric Sh!t-ton or an SAE sh!t-ton?

I have tried too roll it back by drill but it isn't possible, at least with the stock guages. It takes too long to roll it forward. I bought a 79 spedo from john, to replace my 80 spedo, and took it apart. I had to actually remove the circlip that is on the shaft that holds the dials together, and push the dials away from each other to rotate them. It isn't that easy, but it can be done. Once you get the glass off, just pull the assembly out of the housing as far as possible without removing the odo reset shaft. They with a good set of needle nose, small flat screw driver, and some good light, it is straight forward. You just pry the dials apart, setting the digit as you progress to the inner ones. The inner ones are harder to move because you have to push on all dials, but they eventually move. When you are done just put the spring and two circlips back in place, I think, and reassemble.

You should be careful rolling back a Speedo, you could be arrested for indecent exposure. Remember, crack kills. Sorry to hijack the thread, it's just the beers talkin'

                          Metric equivalent.

                          Hi Guys,
azzulno, the Sh!t-ton is strictly an SAE measurement. The nearest metric equivalent is the Excre-tonne.
It is somewhat larger than the SAE unit which uses the US 2,000lb "short" ton because it uses the metric "tonne" of 1,000kg.

                            Back to the main theme

                            Hi,
the most likely reason the PO had the glass off the speedo was not to roll back the odometer at all but to replace the little screws that hold the face onto the gauge after the beggars vibrated out.
Just noticed one of mine rattling about loose in there, dammit!
