  • Lighten UP!

    Anyone done a de-fatting project?

    I'm pondering

    lighter battery
    aftermarket turn signals...

    drilling out various parts

replacing some steel parts with aluminum, fenders with plastic...

    carbon fiber exhaust system ?

I saw SOMEPLACE where one can buy lighter weight brake rotors...

you could always drill the hell out of your own rotors, lose the air box for foam pods, grab bar, center-stand, and rider weight.

There's really only so much weight you can take off the bike save and except chopping the frame up to change the whole bike. However easy weight savings can be made by: using fiber fenders, 4 into 1 exhaust, loose the air box, leave the emg kick starter and main stand at home, drilling or changing the dics, loose the turn signals for something more compact, smaller tail light from a different model, Fill up more often so your running with a 1/2 tank of gas (that's actually about 20 pounds right there alone)

The rider of my XS's could stand to lose 100 lbs . Bike(s) would be dang fast then.

To my way of thinking the essence of any MOTORcycle is the engine. So I don't worry too much about taking weight off the XS. Just today I received an ebay set of footpegs and the aluminum mounting brackets. That way I can cut them up and not worry about my originals. They weigh 7.5# for both sides together. That's a lot just for footpeg mounts. I will probably remove the center stand as well and use a paddock stand in the garage. My center stand on the 650 weighed about 8#
On the other thread I mentioned the wheels, the front wheel/tire/rotors weigh 39.5# and the rear maybe more? I haven't weighed it yet. Rider weight 169# w/5% body fat, so that's out. My head's empty so that is as far as I go.

Here's a 900F rear, XL185 tail-light, ZX wheel, signals from a scooter, Konis, and it's STILL an XS1100. The purists are muttering darkly...

                      XS on a diet?

Will have a few parts for sale that are "lighter" that fit the XS1100's. PM me if interested.

Next week or so plan to return my "hot rod" to a more stock profile.

                              Not gonna happen!

Im working on my parts bike atm.... putting the stuff on.
                              Today it had:
                              frame,
                              tripple trees
                              forks
                              front wheel
                              swingarm
                              shocks
                              rear wheel
                              brake discs
                              rear brake
                              engine without middle drive
                              handlebars
                              handlebar clamp
                              sidestand.
                              Nothing else.
I had to move it around a bit....
                              ...it was heavy.
So... to lighten it up? No way. Not worth it. Get a cheap 600 zipsplat. Got more HP and less weight.
