Just wondering how ya'll go about installing a new battery. Fill with fluid and run it on the bike to get full charge. Or do the whole 10 hour charging routine.

Crew,
Fill it and CHARGE IT on your home trickle charger as per the instructions. If you read the fine print, the stored Dry Charge is only about 1/2 of the battery's capacity, and fully charging it slowly is what allows the battery to develop it's full capacity.
Putting a load on it, as well as the weak charging system of the XS11 without truly charging it, and you could shorten the life of your battery, or at least make it weaker than it could be.

ticle charge
don't forget to get a charger that is only like 1/2 to 1 volt ,automatic is the best a little pricy though, but manual will work just remember to turn it off at the end of the charge. just my 2 cents1982 XJ 1100

And follow the recommended instruction pertaining to filling it and putting the caps on. Fill it with juice, and let it sit with the caps off. If you cap it immediately, a slight vacuum will form as the acid is absorbed by the plates. This prevents the acid from fully impregnating the plates and will result in a lower life span, and will void a warranty claim.
(With warranty claims, some manufacturers slice open the battery and examine the plates. It's evident when the caps have been put on too soon and the plates didn't have enough time to soak the acid up, or receive a full, slow deep charge. This isn't so much a concern at our level here, but where I work, we've had battery warranty claims turned down because of it)"Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a mechanic!' ('Bones' McCoy)
