    Petcock Off position????

    Hi there

Can someone shed light? The petcocks on my 80G has no OFF position? Only ON, PRI and RES. I figured out it works with vacuum from the carb boot. What posistion must I leave it on?

To which carb boots must the vacuum hose from the petcock be connected? 1 or 2 on the left side, and 3 or 4 on right?

    Thx

ON, or RES., but not PRI.
Yes, vacuum petcock. Fuel will only flow in the on or reserve position when the engine is running, supplying vacuum. PRI is used to prime the float bowls, (like after carb work). It will freeflow fuel regardless of engine status. Leaving it on PRI may cause the fuel to overcome the float needles and flood the carb bowls, etc.
Vacuum lines for the petcocks are usually run from the carb manifold boots of carbs #2 and #3, though it really doesn't matter. (make sure that the vacuum line for the vacuum advance is hooked to the nipple on the #2 CARB)

Thanx, I'll Check all the hoses when its back from the hospital.

Gone in to have the head done. Could probably have done it myself, but the guy who did the gearbox got all the tools and goodies. Personally I don't know if it is really neccesary, but compression on 2 and 3 was somewhat lower than the others. He volunteered to do the job, I just need to pay for the parts.

Hopefully he'll also sort the carbs out now, otherwise i'll have to pull them off myself.

Funnily enough, the biggest salvage yard in SA is called...

          'BIKE HOSPITAL' !!!

Ironic, as they dont fix or repair! Only pull bikes apart.

That would make it a "bike morgue"
