  • Drilling Out Baffles

    Hey Gang
Earlier in the month I read a post on drilling out your baffles, sounded good to me So I did it. Wanted a lil more noise
Last weekend wife and I went for a ride, she complained about the exhaust being hotter than normal,I also had noticed after a 100 miles that my motor seemed to be running hotter as well
    Question :
Bye drilling out my exhaust, (4holes about size of pencil in each end of 4 into 2stock exhaust) Did I just lean out my motor causing it to run hot and do I now need to go to bigger main jets to richen it up?
    thanks in advance

Anytime you mess around with the exhaust or intake and change the amount of restriction you will change the mixture and have to re-jet. Whether you need to change the main jets or not depends on the mixture at full throttle. Since you probably don't drive at full throttle a lot unless you do a lot of drag racing you may not need to change them but you will need to check the mixture across the entire RPM range and adjust it with the pilot jets just off idle, the tapered needle for the midrange and the main jets at full throttle. The easy way to do this is with an exhause gas analyzer you can strap on the tank and take out on the road to check the mixture at different speeds. I use an old Heathkit but you can also rent time on a dyno where they have an EGA connected to the machine. Otherwise it's all a lot of trial and error.
