well my restorations has hit another snag on getting my 78 xs1100 standard running. the drain plug on the oil pan is stripped and i can't get it out, so i am looking for a used cheap pan to buy. Also, i am having problems with my rounded off oil filter bolt which i am going to cut off i think, it won't come off otherwise.

Hey Savcage,
On the pan bolt, try using a putty knife or other wedge type piece/tool and while you are turning the bolt, tap in the wedge to help pull the head away from the case, and you may be able to get it to grab some threads to turn out. But you're probably right in that the PAN threads are probably stripped. It's aluminum and softer than the steel bolt going into it. You can then check at auto stores for some oversized replacements. I've even seen some with larger inserts that will fit the pan, and then have a smaller bolt on the inside, that way you can use some sealer on the outer fitting.
The oil filter bolts are easily replaced from many sources, PNM, BIkeBandit, JCW, even your local dealer!
Or you could put on one the S.O.F.A.'s I make and you won't have to deal with the oil filter bolt again! Check out the tech tips, Mods, Oil!
