  • tank gasket

I bought a 78 xs 1100 26,424 miles, paid 400.00, rode it home but it ran rough. turned out to be water in fuel. RMVED tanked flushed, RMVED carbs and cleaned bowls, added new lines and fine mesh filters, starts great sounds good. Here is the question.

Where can i get a gasket for the tank opening, the present one is nfg and is cracked dealer claims n/a. ?

Also, the carbs have a diaphragm, which appears to be a vacuum venturi, Do they require oil as some older auto carbs did? and are those diaphragms avilable?

PS. glad to see there are others who like old stuff.

Have not seen a gasket, but would not be hard to make your own.

Diaphragm, does not need oil, available from couple different on line stores like MikesXS.
    $64.00 I think.

If yours have minor issues, in tech tips should talk about repairing em.

      Hey Myles,

I've used this one from MikesXS for my special cap, works okay!
      Gas cap Rubber Seal
Gas cap Rubber Seal - Fits: All 1976-84 XS650 gas caps.

      Part #20-0036 $4.00 USD EA.
But, the vacuum diaphragms they and other places like PNM sell, are only for the later model 80-81 carbs. They are bigger IIRC than the 78-79....the metal slide part, so like MRO said, if you've just got some small pinholes, then you can patch them with Plastidip or such. I believe they are still available from Yamaha or BikeBandit, but are very expensive!
