  • XS11 Special to chain Drive

    Hello,

I have a 1979 XS11 Special, I plan On doing a complete custom and have a few questions. I would like to convert the shaft drive to chain drive only because that is what I prefere and I realize there are many who don't care for that Idea much, So my question is Can I use my stock transmission Or do I need to find a transmission from another Bike and If so Do any of You Know which transmissions are a good candidate for this swap?

I plan On using the frontend off an R1 and lengthing the swing arm... It will not have the look of an XS11...But will have the soul.

Any suggestions would and will be appreciated.

    Thank YOU

Another member of the Chain Gang!

    Hey YamaXS,

Do a search here for Chain Drive, and look for several posts from PGGG!! Also, look in the OTHER BIKE forum, he also posted a bunch of photos there as well!

PGGG has found about the best way to make a chain drive unit work for the XS11. But there was another guy that did a massive custom making his a 1500cc XS11, and had an outboard/outside of frame chain drive, etc, look/search for THOR.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at what you find! GO FOR IT!

That chaindrive bike is a backyard built beast you need a drill-press, a welder, and usual grinders, file, hacksaw. A lathe is handy for skimming down spacers etc.. but hacksaw file sandpaper does it with patience
