  • XJ1100 rear airshocks

I don't have a manual for the XJ, just for the XS

So what is the optimal pressure for the XJ1100 rear airshocks

And the front and rear are adjustable, but I have a hard time telling any diffference, what do the adjustments do?

I don't have an XJ, I have an XV750J, but it has air front and back, and my VT1100 was air, but only on the front.

Basically, the optimum pressure, at the rear is whatever it needs to be as soft as possible, yet not let you bottom out on normal roads. The softer the suspension, the more comfortable it is, and the better the bikes stays on the road. You don't want it bottoming (soft) and you don't want it to bounce (hard).

The front air is essentially the same, but you have to account for dive as you brake hard. The bike will always dip in the front on hard braking, you just don't want it to dive suddenly.

For me, on the VT1100 I usually put the front fork pressure at 0 it's recommended was 5psi, with a max of 35psi or so.

On the XV750 I run 5psi on the front, and 35psi on the rear. According to the manual, this is a bit hard for one up, and a bit soft for two up riding, and I do 90% one up riding.

    Mostly it's just personal feel.

The damper adjusters adjust how quickly the shock dampeners (absorbers) react to bumps. you adjust these to your feel as well. Keep them as soft as possible, but adjust to suit your riding style. If you have your air set and over 95% of the roads in your area your fine, but there are a couple bumps that still bottom out your suspension, turn the dampener adjuster a bit stiffer.

All of this is dependant on your riding style. The faster you ride the stiffer the suspension needs to be. I ride mostly liesure highway speeds, so I have it set quite soft, and adjust if I am going a distance with a passenger.

    Hope this helps.

PS there should be a sticker on your bike that gives you riding ranges for your front and rear pressures, just like the tire sticker.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...
