  • Broken ear on Carb throttle lever

    Hey Guys ,

Anyone ever deal with this before ?? The part where the throttle cable slips through was broken off . So there is nothing to contain the throttle cable barrell in place on the throttle lever ...One side is still there ...

I just recieved the GSXR 36 MM carbs from an e-bay seller .

    Thanks

    Hey Dog,

Is this what you are talking about, wasn't sure if you were talking about the handlebar grip or at the carb!?

        Re carb tab

Its the lever on the carb itself , part of the butterfly shaft ..
one of the ears is broken off that the cable shouls slip through and the cable end barrel will ride on ...

I'm thinking possibly weld a washer in place with a slit in it .
This is a second set of carbs , 36 MM ...
        Single cable

Thinking of returning them or partial refund..But its a project again ......Sigh ..They were supposed to be ready to put on a bike ..Groan ...

          Looks like aluminum...........
Need a TIG and a very good welder to repair something so small. Would have to come off. Would probably set you back $60.00.

Never tried and don't know if possible to braze or silver solder aluminum.

            J-B?

Could try two small washers on each side, J-B Weld epoxy. Fill void between washers with J-B. May have to mix with extra hardener to acheive consistancy to hold in void. If some makes it irregular for barrel, you will have to smooth it out with drill bit or small round file.
            Just a thought?

On my spare 81 bank, that part is on a swivel pin, but it is steel or steel base type metal....a magnet sticks to it! So you should be able to weld to it, but you might want to try to get a thick piece similar to what's there, drill the right size hole in it, and you might actually want to cut off the curved part so you'll have a nice straight flat piece to weld to!?

                Good Input

MRO , It is steel . . .With zinc coating ...
I do remember reading about a kit for throttle return(dual) on these as they tend to suck open at high throttle !!??

80mdnt11 , J.B Weld would be great to not heat distort the part ...If it does not hold can weld it ...or silver solder ...

T.C , I see what your saying about cutting it to get a flat spot to weld it ...Imaging can put most of the part in heat sink compound and not distort anything ...

I checked the dealer and the part is discontinued , so thats out ...

                Will post the fix ...

The seller has not gotten back to me yet , but am thinking to chop off $50.00 might be fair . I got Suzuki carb mounting boots new in the packing , plus brand new K&N Dual air filters .With these carbs for $260.00 plus $19.00 shipping ...
Was dissapointed they would not hold the cable barrel ....
