Gnepig, V-Max doesn't have the horses it use to have on the earlier ones...........won't hold a candle to the FJR1300 in straight line acceleration, let alone the handling department. Unfortunately the V-Max has give up its old H.P. ratings, still fast acceleration, but out-dated.

Nasty
FJR 1300. I have heard they are a mean machine. 2nd gear wheelie's with a full tour pack. Maybe Yamaha will have one at Daytona bike week so I can try it out!!! I hear they are special order only. That is what my local Yamaha dealer told me. He said they can't sell a new one off the show room floor reserved for special order only!! Is this true.Dan ( A.K.A.- MacGyver )

Depends on your location and who's talkin' excess11. How I came to ride one: was at a local gas station near my home and one pulled in. Person riding it commented on my XS Venturer, and so conversation started. He was from Cali. and was gonna try and make Las Vegas that nite. This was bout 7 in the evening and he had a 500 mile ride ahead, plus it was ugly looking towards Utah, so he spent the nite at my home, sparing him the motel expense. Next morning, he wanted to ride my ST as he almost purchased one instead of the FJR. So riding the FJR with extra gear on back besides the hard side cases, was rolling bout 40 in third and wanted to see what it had. No clutching, just twisted it hard and reaching bout 4500rpm it suddenly came on hard and lifted the front wheel, carried it till I backed off it........mind you, that elevation here in Junction is just short of 5,000ft too! Can Imagine what that super tour class bike would do at sea level. And at 145ponies, read a comparison of it and the Honda ST1100 like I have. The Honda not too shabby with 0-100 in 10sec. The FJR1300 had a 0-100 in 7.4sec.! That's quick for a sport touring bike! The only bikes that top that are the big 'zip-splats' in there order of no.3 to no. 1......Honda Blackbird, Suzuki Hiyabusa, and now no.1: the 1500cc ZX-14 Kawasaki at a 198ponies..........now that's suicidal!....FJR's not that hard to find if your timing is right.Last edited by motoman; 08-28-2006, 10:23 PM.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.
