well since i got the xs martini in feb this year i found that it vibrated badly through the foot pegs,so trying to sort this out i firts swaped the rear diff but that made no difference.so next was the engine mounts try getting them new ? i got front bottom ones for the xs,the back ones came from a xj1100 and the top front came from a xjr1300.all back together and no difference, started to think it was the middle gear box.then i had a meeting with a fello xs owner who had a look at my back tyre to see if it was a tubeless tyre and he noticed that the 2 bead locks were next to each other and the innertube came out of the wrong hole.so next day the back wheel was removed innertube taken out the bead holders were but in the correct place and all put back together and put on the bike.went for a 250 mile road test and hey job is a goodun, goes like s### off a shovel and no vibes.

When I put the tirs on my XS, I don't recall any "rim locks"...what are they, what do they look like? I put the itre on, installed inner tube, lined up the little dot on the tire with the valve stem, inflated and put it on the bike...same on both wheels. Got approximately 1200 miles on them with no issues....did I do something bad?
By the way,I mis spelled tire.."Bad Spellers of the world...UNTIE!!"I am the Lorax, I speak for the Trees

Hey Lorax,
Before you get too worked up about this, check your rims for the word "TUBELESS" stamped on one of the spokes! If you have that, then you don't have to worry about the rimlocks! But, if you don't have that, then you "might" have a little to worry about!
You've put inner tubes in them, so that is better than if you had put tubeless type tire on without a tube on a TUBE type rim. The circumference where the bead of the tire fits onto the rim seems to be a little LESS with the Tube type rims, and the bead locks help keep the bead out against the lateral bead rim. Because of a looser fitting tire on the rim, during an unexpected deflation, the rim locks help keep the tire on the rim providing you with "some" ability to keep control of the bike as you coast to a stop. Without the rim locks, the tire bead can slip away from the lateral bead, and contort, fold, etc., and make it very difficult to control the wheel and the bike!
It sounds like a P.O. might have replaced the permanent rim valve with the inner tube and valve combo? Will be curious to hear what you really have?

The rims are tubeless. I removed the valve stem and the old tire, replaced with new tire and a tube ( I figured that given the age of the rims, they might not seal well.) the machine is rather different, given the various modifications made to it. 16" rear wheel..yes it is a standard. the suspension appears to be lowered as there is some amount cut off of the side stand (I had to make a new foot it), and it a nightmare to put on the center stand. it has straight drag bars on it and a poorly painted special tank. its a blast to ride but looks like hell...btw no side covers, carbs off an '80 model w/pod filters and a jerdine 4-1 header and muffler. It is a sight to behold...but...a hell of a ride.I am the Lorax, I speak for the Trees
