  • Gas leak with Fuel petcock on Prime

Quick question for those in the know.
I have read through many of the fuel shutoff valve threads, but wanted to make sure.
Since I have been working on mine (pickup coils) I have never had any starting problems and never used the prime setting and today I set it on primie to see if it would leak. It didn't at first then after a few minutes--a fairly fast gas drip. Is this normal or should I attempt to fix this? Also I read about the blue polyethelene gas hose--Is this type like the best? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Bruce Tuxhorn(32bat) Also any xs'ers in Idaho?

It is not normal, but it also not uncommon. It can be something as simple as a tiny spec of dirt between the needle valve an its seat, or a deteriorated rubber tip on a later-model needle, or a worn tip/seat on an earllier brass-tip needle, or a float that has lost some of its buoyancy, or a sticky float mechanism, or all of the above. Any way you look at it, it is 'broke' in case you need an excuse to 'fix it'.
