Re-chroming

Hi everyone.

I have been running an aftermarket front fender for awhlie but would like to go back to the original chrome fender on my 79 Special. But it is less than pristine and the rear is getting some beauty problems too.

Has anyone ever had the chrome parts re-chromed? Or, can that even be done?

You can certainly do it, with three qualifiers.
1) All traces of rust and corrosion must be removed before many plating shops will touch them.
2) You need to find a proven, reliable shop to do the plating, often easier said than done.
3) If shipping will be involved, you need to document the parts with photo's, and insure your packages both ways. So many of our bike parts are rare, if not irreplaceable.

I know someone has had thier exhaust done in the chrome like ceramic, Jet Hot??

Stralya, I dont think I would re-chrome an exhaust system. The metal goes through too much stress from heat and cooling cycles and then there is the fact they all seem to rot from the inside out. You could spend a lot of $$$ and still end up with a failure.

But then, a new OEM type system can get a bit pricey.

The Jet-Hot ceramic coating looks alot like chrome but I think that the Jet-Hot people will only do new systems and will not coat a used exhaust. Things will run cooler with a Jet-Hot coated system and your system will last alot longer since it will be coated inside and out.

There's an outfit in England that makes 4-to-2 custom stainless exhausts for 11's. About $1,000 last I checked.
