  • odometer crapped out

With a little over 58K on the clock, both my odometer and trip meter have started to run in slow motion (about half-speed). The speedo needle is working fine. I can only think of three things which have happened fairly recently which may have some bearing on this problem.
    1. I reset the trip meter on the fly when I realized I had failed to reset it after a gas stop.
    2. My speedo cable broke about a month ago, and then the cable from my parts bike broke after about 100 miles after I installed it. It did look a little weak with a small kink about 3 inches from the lower end. I have had a NOS cable on the bike for about 3 weeks.
    3. I dropped the bike in my gravel driveway a couple of weeks ago.
The speedo is a 160MPH unit on a 1980 Standard. Anybody out there ever had this problem before, and is there a fix so I don't have to replace the unit?
