  • TCI's from New Zealand

Well I bought one of them for my XJ. Installed it when it finally got here. Bike started fine and idled ok until the test drive. There is severe detonation while cruising around 2000-3500 rpm in town. WOT and the bike is quite a bit more responsive. I suspect the timing curve is too severe for my bike. Also when I come to a stop the idle will hang up around 1700 to 2000 or so until I pull on the front brake lever or use the rear brake pedal. Also my tach won't go over 6000 with it installed. I am back to the old one with the intermitant problem for now.

Anyone else here have one of these they are having trouble with?
Also is there a way to adjust the timing on an XJ besides the TCI?

Do a search because I think that someone did indeed buy and install one of these and there were some problems with different plugs.

Coke, those hyperpak units are pretty common down here, from what I've heard they have a good reputation, they seem to make them mainly for GS - GSX suzukis, they also advertise FJ, XJ, XT units but I don't think they're properly 'sorted' for an eleven? Here's their website http://www.erd.co.nz/products/index.html not much help really but email them for some answers. If they're shipping off units with the attitude "maybe they'll work on an XS/XJ11" then they need a stir-up!!

Thanks for the replys. I had already read the complete thread, that's why I bought the thing. I have spent hours reading everything I can get my hands on, both on this forum and the net. I as just wondering if anyone else had had trouble with theirs. I know MAXIMAN had trouble with the harness, but he got that sorted out. I am just kind of worried about the detonation. Don't want to put holes in the top of my pistons. Bike only has 22,000 kms on it. And I also don't want to burn out the electrical (tack and the brake thing)

I have several email contacts with Wayne at ERD in New Zealand and he suggested burning premium fuel, which I did. Did not help the detonation problem at all. I suspect there is just too much advance built into the timing

Coke, I'm not familiar with XJ11's but put a timing light on the the pulser unit(the spinning plate) it should? have at least an idle mark and a camchain mark and possibly a "U" mark for stock timing at full noise, a plastic protracter gives a good indication of degrees, run it thru from idle to full noise and get some figures thru the rev range and I'll compare it to mine and we should get some sort of indication of what's going on. Having to put on the brake lights to shut down the idle sounds tricky almost like it's more for race-type cams. Must be a bad earth surely?

Also guessing these hyperpak guys don't know XS11's have vacuum connection to the timing.
