  • Master Cylinder rebuild kit

Hey I got a master cylinder rebuild kit and unfortunatley am unable to install it. How the hell do you get the old one out? I ripped the rubber boot and now I'm leaking brake fluid.

Found one on ebay but damn I hate wasting money.

Things are runnning so good here at work that I'm absolutley bored out of my skull enough to come back here and visit.

What I did to remove mine was take a quarter inch drive socket extention and a hammer and slide it into the hole that the brake line attaches to and hit it a few times(easy) an the cylinder came out of the hole the lever pushed into. Didnt break the retaining clip either. Good luck

I used an air compressor for removing the piston. You DO need to remove the snap ring, deep inside the bore FIRST. Trying to get it out has always been the hard part. It usually has rust all around, and is hard to get the long nose snap ring tool on.

        Snap ring?
        hmmm.

You know I looked for one of those but couldn't find it. I'm inferring from your posts that it was ill-advised using a baby sledge hammer and metal rod to remove this delicate item?

I didn't have much trouble removing the snap ring. Pushed the plunger down far enough to get a snap ring pliers into the bore, compressed the ring and out it came. Took me only 2 or 3 tries, less than 5 minutes. Put it back in the same way. Pliers is a heavy-duty unit with replaceable tips; I used the longest straigh tips that came with it. Tool was from NAPA, I think.

Thanks Jerry I'll look at that as soon as I get off work.
