    Good deal

81XS1100-2006 the prevous poster was replying about how happy he was with his carb set and if he is happy then so be it!!! It just seemed like TC was trying to rain on his parade.

      Ultra Critical....Me? Naaaaa!

      Hey Dan,

I'm far from being ultra-critical!! I'm very similar to you, an enthusiastic shadetree survivalist.

However, if synching the carbs was just synching them to each other....in otherwords, just setting the butterflies so that they all open exactly at the same time, then the bench synch is all that would be needed! And I did that and used mine that way for quite some time.

But..vacuum synching them IS to coordinate how each carb responds to each cylinder and their variations in production of vacuum, and the synching process IS varying the opening of the butterflies so that the vacuum level going thru each carb is the same despite the amount of vacuum that is being applied by the engine so that the amount of fuel/air mixture will be relatively the same producing the same amount of power in each cylinder!

So...sure getting a set vacuum synched on another bike will probably be very close to what a person's bike will need, but it would be prudent to vacuum synch them to their bike once they are received, but if they don't it'll probably run very well in spite of that.

I in NO WAY intended to poo-poo "Jim's" service, I thankyou for providing the info and link for those in your area that might want to avail themselves of his work!

As I am no expert, and not trying to hijack this thread, I was just offering an option that worked for me.

I had gas filling up my air box and found no one here in the Twin Cities that would touch the bike for under $400 (just to look at it). Too rich for my daily ride/fun.

For virtually everything else I've wrenched it myself with the help of this website. I don't even have a clymers. Havn't needed it. I encourage SAVCAGE to DIY as much as possible too....

            Fix

A trick to try is take a 6 point socket (either standard or metric) that is slightly smaller than the original bolt size then hammer it onto the rounded bolt. Now attemt to remove with a ratchet. It works some times

Always use 6pt socket, learned that the hard way. I agree with everyone else. DO IT YOURSELF. If you don't know how to do it take it slow at first. The general motorcycle mechanic probably doesn't know either, at least you have the xs11 site for help. For me I ended up cleaning the carbs about 3 times, each being more in depth. I take the carbs into the kitchen and work there. MY mom hates it. I take apart 1 and 2, setting the carb parts in their own bowl. If I have any questions about how to get them back together, I have 3 and 4 to look at. Just use common sense and don't force anything that doesn't need to be.

                Dude,

You can do all this your self - Trust me. I am a moron about mechanical stuff, but I have figured it out... Plus I am here in KC too. Drop me a note at mattfrme@yahoo.com and I will do what I can to help you. I have the Yama owners service manual and the yama repair tech manual too.
