New XJ11 owner - Please help - I'm leaking

Hi - I just brought home my 1982 XJ1100 Maxim - Of course with my luck it is leaking gasoline right out of the bottom of the airbox. Past experiences tell me that the fuel petcock is probably leaking right through and pooling in the airbox. I thought I might try a new fuel valve from Pingel - All I need is simple on and off.
- Does anyone know what part number would fit. I would prefer using single outlet and a "Y-Pipe".(for simplicity)
- What would the bolt spacing be for the Maxim 1100 fuel valve?
- Would I need adapter plate - which one?
- Can anyone think of a simple fix that I might be overlooking?

Maybe there's some other issue I should be looking at too.

With fuel leaking out the carbs in to the air box, even if you fix the petcock, the float needles need to be fixed/replaced. If the float needles are shuting off as they should and need to, it shouldn't matter that the petcocks don't shut off.

one of my xs11's did that and by replacing the petcocks it did absolutly nothing for the problem. I had to pull the carbs off and clean them out the needle and seat are not a wear part very rarley do you need to replace those usually its a piece of debris that keeps the neddle from seating properly

Don't forget the cheap inline filters and new fuel line to prevent any more little "Bits n pieces" from your tank and old lines. Be a shame to get the carbs all cleaned out... go for a ride... then shut it off and have it leaking again. After you get all this done, then look and see how the petcocks are doing.

Thanks for your help - Here's another question. Why TWO petcocks? Are you supposed to keep them both on when you're riding? Or one. This is the craziest as* design I've seen yet with all the hoses and such.

I was told that the tank will not empty out with only one petcock so they added another one. Yes you are supposed two run them both, Also I had the same problem as you early on and it was my carbs....

If you read up about that octopus, many on here have just done away with it. They run a line from the left side of the tank the "T" between carbs one and two, then the other petcock goes to carbs three and four. Some connect these 2 lines at some point between the tanks and the "T"'s, so gas could actually go from the right side at some point to carbs 1&2 or vise versa when you got low on fuel.... along with the inline fuel filters.

The octo for my XJ is on the wall if you need another one!

A further thought...My 78 had sat for about 5 years and the tank was in bad shape with a lot of rust. Had to reline it to keep the gunk from screwing up the carbs.
