rear shock removal?

Hi guys,does anybody know if I would have to take off the exhaust just to remove and put on a new set of shocks?? 1979 xs1100sp

Hard question to answer. Depends what kind o' exhaust system you have, and whether or not they're in the way, I suppose. There's just an upper and lower nut holdin' the shocks on. As long as there's room to get to them and slide the shocks out...
