  • Brake upgrade basics

Just installed stainless steel lines up front. This is my first time working on an empty brake system. Searched for a step by step tech tip or thread about filling and bleeding. Found a lot as usual, but not just those basics. If you guys would be so kind as to let me know what to do to fill and bleed I can go riding tomorrow!
    Thanks

The very basic for bleeding brakes in an empty system is to
    - fill the master cylinder
    -open a bleeder valve
-leave the bleeder valve open and let the brake fluid drain down the brake hose and fill the caliper until brake fluid comes out
    -close the bleeder
    -open the other bleeder
-repeat as above until brake fluid comes out the bleeder
-close the bleeder then pump the brake 4-5 times and hold it in/down
-open the bleeder, ideally brake fluid will squirt out with maybe some sputtering.
    -close the bleeder
-pump the brake 4-5 times and hold it in/down
    -open the bleeder
-When you get good pressure built-up at the brake lever and no supttering from the bleeder then you are done....
    -repeat for other side.

      Thanks Pat!
I've read about all the problems and ideas about bleeding, but this is exactly what I needed. A one man job?

Would this straight fitting have enough room at the bleeder

or would this 35 degree fitting work better? I was trying to avoid the big bend in it (more of a bend than stock)

Hope I posted the pics correctly

          Dean,

You used the link for the Photodump VIEWER, not the actual photos, so I fixed it!

Either one should work, you just need enough room to be able to put a wrench on the bleeder, and also to fit a hose to the end of it so that you can see the bubbles, and when they stop, and run the hose into a catch can!
