  • Where did the oil go?

When I got my bike about 6 weeks ago, I changed the oil, but not the filter as I didn't have one. I finally got near the yami shop, and got a filter, and a big jug of mobil 1 synthetic 20/50.
I put my bike up on the center stand, and pulled the plug, and only about 2 qts came out....I know that when I changed oil I put in at least 3 qts or maybe a slight bit more, and the sight gauge indicated full. I had written in earlier about a noisey tranny, well, I think I may have been a little low on oil. Now, after wrestling with those darn rubber grommets on the filter that kept popping out, and filling the whole thing fresh with synthetic, the shifting is noticibly smoother, and there is less clunk in the tranny. I didn't realize that the engine would use a quart so quickly. I probably have only put on about 1200 miles since I got the bike, and I keep it clean. There never seems to be any oil drips or any oil leakage that I can detect. Where did the oil go? is it magically used up by a non smoking engine much like the early 80's honda cars? could it be leaking into the intermediate drive?
Also, I have notice one other thing, and then I'll let you go, there seems to be grease coming out of the front wheel bearing on to the rotors. is this normal or is there a seal that may need to be replaced?
Thanks you guys for all the input on my first message...

Mobil 1 pure synthetic is so slick that you can slip the starter clutch, slip the drive clutch, and at highway speed it is so slick that you may lose some past the rings. No kidding!

Do NOT let the grease contaminate the brake pads!!! Use some simple green to wash it away from the calipers and rotors Follow up with brake clean spray.

        where did oil go

        morning,
nevr use syn oil in these bikes. its to slippery and I think to watery. tranny noise with this oil will be noisier and from experience your clutch will slip. Its to thin.My bike will eat 10 30 of any regular oil. I learned that along time ago.check the threads about what oil to use with our experts. (we'er experts here arent we . we do ride 11000 yammys) I like the castrol 20 50 some guys use the rotella. syn oil in a 27 year old motor cycle ? these bikes are tough but I do believe they were designed to use regular oil. youll notice the difference.
